SUN OF THE SEA is tipped to brighten the day for Lingfield punters when he goes for gold in the Apprentice Handicap (4.40).

Trained by Nick Littmoden, this son of Best Of The Bests will arrive at the Sunbury venue in cracking nick, having been in the first two home on each of his last three starts.

After posting a smooth victory over this course and distance in January, the gelding has lost little in defeat behind Cold Turkey and Safari Sundowner the last twice.

Sun Of The Sea did not impress everyone with his attitude last time as he wanted to hang left as push came to shove.

However, it would be unfair to put too much emphasis on that - especially since the race was run at a farcical gallop through the early stages before turning into something of a sprint.

He will sport first-time blinkers here and should take a power of beating if they have a sharpening effect.

Befortyfour has probably not been the easiest to train but is by far and away the horse with most potential in the Lingfield Park Derby Trial On May 10th Maiden Stakes (4.10).

Trained by the masterful Michael Jarvis, this son of the lightning-fast Kyllachy will be making his first appearance for 294 days.

But he looked a sure-fire future winner when chasing home the useful Roker Park on his juvenile debut back in June and subsequently showed up well at Royal Ascot.

Only beaten just over four lengths in the Windsor Castle, he should get off the mark here if retaining the majority of that ability.

Further north at Southwell, Lethal is fancied to strike a killer blow for Richard Fahey in the Book Your Tickets Online Handicap (4.30).

Although he has yet to win at this specialist track, there was nothing wrong with a recent second in a fair race for the grade here last time. …
