TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY.

I have been married to Sheryl for 37 years. She's a homemaker with a part-time decorating business and active in church ministry. Our son Matthew is 33, married, resides in Memphis, Tenn., and works for the Memphis Grizzlies. Our son Mark is 30, engaged, lives in Jacksonville and is an attorney for the law firm Akerman Senterfitt. Our daughter, Emily, is 24, married, resides in Jacksonville and is a teacher for St. Johns Presbyterian Preschool.

HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR CALLING?

I was raised in a Christian home and went to college as a Christian. However, my faith came under attack at college, and although I never seriously wavered in my faith, I knew there were answers to the attacks on conservative Christianity. My initial goal was to defend the faith, but God used that initial desire to lead me into pastoral ministry, which I have done for almost 29 years.

WHAT OTHER CHURCHES OR MINISTRIES HAVE YOU SERVED?

I served as pastor-teacher of Grace Bible Church in Southgate, Mich., from 1979 to 1989, and began serving at my current church in 1989. Also, I served as adjunct faculty for William Tyndale College in Farmington Hills, Mich., and also for Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville. I am also involved in ongoing mission work in El Salvador. …
