PORTSMOUTH manager Harry Redknapp promised to keep chasing Everton for fifth place in the Barclays Premier League after his team's ninth away win of the season at his former club West Ham reduced the gap on the Merseysiders to four points.

Pompey will make the Uefa Cup for the first time if they win the FA Cup final against Cardiff in six weeks' time but after seeing Niko Kranjcar's goal earn victory last night, Redknapp admitted he is targeting as high a league placing as possible.

"We're just going to try and win all our games and there are some decent fixtures left," said Redknapp.

"There's certainly no let-up after reaching the Cup Final on Saturday. I didn't have to do a lot with the boys to keep them going tonight. Last Saturday on the coach back from Wembley, there were big celebrations. I think I fell asleep after about four minutes.

"It's been a good week. You just hope that on the back of reaching a cup final, you can still keep going. And the lads did great."

Redknapp left out playmaker Lassana Diarra, Wembley goal hero Kanu - who came on as a late sub - and injured striker Milan Baros.

Pompey's defending looked fairly desperate in the opening 20 minutes and it needed a last-ditch tackle by Sylvain Distin to stop Dean Ashton when the forward moved in for Bobby Zamora's unselfish ball across the face of the area.

Just before the break, David James had to turn Ashton's fierce 30-yarder around a post and then was beaten by a double deflection off Nolberto Solano's free-kick, but the ball dropped just wide for a corner.

But Portsmouth survived West Ham's early pressure and Kranjcar struck from an Arnold Mvuemba pass in the 61st minute after going close six minutes earlier.
