A MARRIED dad-to-be has been cleared of attacking another man with a spanner outside a Teesside pub.

Rhett St James, 29, was accused of wounding Mark Graham with intent at the Vane Arms in Long Newton, near Stockton.

Mr Graham, 46, alleged he was struck on the head with the spanner after being set upon by Mr St James.

But Mr St James said it was Mr Graham who brought the spanner, hitting him in the mouth with it and also trying to grab his testicles.

Yesterday Mr St James was found not guilty by a Teesside Crown Court jury. He had denied the offence of wounding with intent.

His pregnant wife, Sarah St James, 34, had appeared alongside him in the dock.

She was charged with dangerous driving arising out of the same incident last April. It was alleged that she had run over pub landlord Andrew Kilpatrick's foot while driving the couple's 4x4 vehicle.

The prosecution alleged Mr Kilpatrick had tried to stop them driving away from the pub after police had been called. …
