A MAN has admitted attempting to murder a shop assistant at a Teesside department store.

Paul Anthony Dempsey, 33, above, was accused of trying to kill Rosie Bonner at the Binns store in central Middlesbrough.

Ms Bonner was stabbed while working at the town centre store in January this year.

Staff and customers watched in horror as a knife-wielding man stabbed the shop assistant in the stomach.

Ms Bonner was attacked in the ladies fashion department on the store's first floor.

The man was wrestled to the ground by security staff.

Police recovered a knife after sealing off the store.

Ms Bonner was rushed to James Cook University Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery for a serious abdominal injury.

Yesterday Dempsey appeared before the Recorder of Middlesbrough Judge Peter Fox QC.

Heavy security surrounded his appearance, with five security officers in the dock with him and two more stood at the door of the court. …
