United Front to Fight Arson; Partners Pledge to Tackle Scourge

A JOINT strategy was being launched today to tackle Teesside's pounds 24m arson scourge.

Cleveland Fire Brigade and partners were signing a formal agreement to reduce arson - the country's largest single cause of fire.

In the past year, the brigade has reduced deliberate fires in the home by 5% thanks to a close relationship with its partners - Cleveland Police, Safer Middlesbrough, Safer Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland Partnership and Safer Stockton.

Deliberate vehicle fires were also reduced by 5.9% and industrial or commercial fires have dropped by 23.3%.

Now, on the back of this partnership success, a formal arson reduction agreement was being launched today at Police Headquarters in Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough.

By adopting a multi-agency approach, it is hoped all the organisations involved can share core skills and information in a bid to reduce arson - a crime which costs pounds 24m a year in the Cleveland brigade area. …
