JAZZ legend Courtney Pine swapped the inner city for a rural shoreline to inspire a new song.

To celebrate England for St George's Day, top artists from all over the country took a trip into a different world from their own to discover what a land of contrasts the country is for a TV film.

Sax player Courtney is London through and through, and Holy Island off Northumberland couldn't be more different from the bustling capital city.

He spent three days there and composed a new piece of music. Courtney said: "I'm an inner-city North London youth and going somewhere so different from my cultural background could be so wrong, but it was so right because the music took a journey."

Courtney was amazed to find that when he arrived at the island it could only be reached by one road which is covered by the tide for up to seven hours twice a day.

Courtney used the beauty and isolation of the island to compose his new music, taking advice from local musician and world renowned Northumberland pipe player Kathryn Tickell. …
