KILLINGWORTH YPC are close to becoming champions in their first Alliance campaign.

With only three games left - at home to Jesmond and away to Whitley Bay Town and Willington Quay Saints, the current leaders may need to win two of these to see off the challenge of second-placed Cullercoats.

Killy were 3-1 winners at North Shields Athletic as Robert Ruddick bagged a brace and an own goal completed their tally.

Meanwhile, Cullercoats had James Leggatt (penalty), Joe Elliott and Stu Wright on the mark in a 3-3 draw with visitors Shields United, whose scorers were Gareth Adams, Dave Surrey and Kyle Yorston.

The Seasiders then won 5-1 at home to Whitley Bay Town to keep the pressure on Killingworth.

This time Craig Deighton, Rob Watson, Stu Wright, Steve Hart and Sean Smith shared their goals.

In third and fourth places respectively, Amble United and Jesmond are out of the running in the promotion stakes.

Jesmond, though, earned some consolation at Ponteland Leisure Centre when they beat holders Wallsend Town 3-1 in the final of the Pin Point Recruitment Amateur Cup. …
