Native Sun hosts its first Earth Day event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at its Mandarin store, 10000 San Jose Blvd.

There will be giveaways, children's activities, entertainment and an organic cookout with natural turkey and veggie burgers, fruit, salads and more. Representatives from the St. Johns Riverkeeper, Florida Lawn and Neighborhoods and The Green Team will be on hand to share tips on going green. The first 500 customers receive a free reusable grocery bag. Proceeds from the program benefit Greenscape of Jacksonville, a local nonprofit organization that's added more than 180,000 trees to Jacksonville's canopy since 1975.


The Mandarin Senior Center holds its Spring Craft Fest from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the center at 3848 Hartley Road.

Arts and crafts booths will be set up inside the center and in the rear parking lot, with raffles for numerous items donated for the fest. Lunch can be purchased at the center, as well as baked items, and face-painting is available for children. The center's garden club will also be selling plants.

The senior center is open weekdays with numerous programs for the area's senior citizens, including bridge classes for beginners, held at 9:30 a.m. every Wednesday in the center annex.


Jacksonville Masterworks Chorale Artistic Director Mark Stallings and the Temple Chorale with Cantor Margaret Bruner will present the oratorio Judas Maccabaeus by George Frideric Handel at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the Congregation Ahavath Chesed at 8727 San Jose Blvd. Admission is $10 per person.


Georgia Southern University Eagles defensive coordinator Ashley Anders will be the featured speaker at the Greater Jacksonville Eagle Club at 6 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Losco Regional Park at 10851 Hood Road S. …
