A DRUG user addicted to heroin since he was 12 has been jailed for burgling a domestic violence refuge to fund his habit.

Jamie Waters, 21, of Portman Street, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to four burglaries at Teesside Crown Court. He was sentenced to 10 months in prison.

The court heard how Waters committed his first burglary on Boxing Day. He broke into Mango Health and Beauty Salon stealing two pairs of hair straightteners worth pounds 72 and pounds 14 in cash.

Days later on January 2, seeing workmen lay carpets at women's refuge My Sister's Place, Middlesbrough, he slipped into the building making off with a laptop worth pounds 800.

He tried on February 5 to break into TH Flory Electrical Centre, Middlesbrough, but activated a silent alarm and police caught him inside.

His spree finally ended on March 4, when Waters cashed in 131 kilos of lead he had stolen from the bay window of a property on Southfield Road, Middlesbrough. …
