I KNOW it's hard to believe someone can make it into their 30s without trying Mexican food ... but that's me.

I can't abide spicy food and avoid anything that is potentially too hot to handle.

Then I came across Mohujos on Station Road, Billingham.

The menu in the window proudly states: "It's not all hot", so I thought I would be brave and give it a try.

As we took our seats I was reassured that any meals can be adapted so they are not spicy, it was not a problem.

For starters I had special king prawns and my dinner guest had tostadas.

The big and juicy black tiger prawns had been pan fried and were served in a tomato and garlic sauce (I went for the non-spicy option for the sauce, of course). Usually served on a bed of spicy rice, mine came on a bed of lettuce - and it was beautiful.

Across the table, the oven baked corn tortilla layered with refried beans, shredded chicken and iceberg lettuce went down well with the sour cream, salsa and Monterey Jack cheese. …
