THIRD-PLACED Monkton Juniors needed extra-time to see off lowly Castle Park in the Under-10 PremierLeague final.

The game started with a shock for Monkton when Castle Park's Howarth fired in a dipping volley from 30 yards which Heywood did well to save.

Apart from a few halfchances at either end, the score remained 0-0 at the break.

In the second half, Monkton stepped up a gear and, after a scramble in the Castle box, Donaghy smashed his shot over the bar.

This was followed by a Chapman strike which flew just wide and a good effort by Heywood which the goalkeeper saved well.

Extra-time saw Castle Park defending heroically, especially goalkeeper Ramsay who denied the Monkton forwards time and time again.

With time running out, a great through-ball from Chapman sent in Richardson who managed to beat the Castle goalkeeper, slotting it low into the net to put his side ahead.

Castle responded well as time ticked away and at the death Morrow managed to break through the Monkton defence - only to see Richardson pull off an excellent save to give Monkton the trophy. …
