ARMED Forces veterans on Teesside are being urged to claim a special badge of honour.

The Veterans' Badge, issued by the Government, is available free to anyone who has served in HM Armed Forces and also to people in receipt of a War Widows/ Widowers Pension.

A special presentation will be made to Hartlepool's ex-service people on Sunday, July 6, during Hartlepool Maritime Festival, where there will also be a range of military displays and a veterans' parade.

Ex-serviceman Tug Wilson, who is co-ordinating applications for the badges in the town, said: "The badge shows people that you have served your country and it should be worn with pride.

"Since the badge was launched in 2004 just over 600 Hartlepool people have claimed it, but there are still many more who have not yet done so and I would encourage them to apply."

The badge is enamelled and features the words "HM Armed Forces - Veteran" with the anchor, crossed swords and eagle motifs of the three services. …
