SOLDIERS from Prince Harrys regiment are to be deployed to work with himfor his African Aids charity.

A detachment of the Blues and Royals will travel to Lesotho within weeks tobuild care facilities for Aids orphans alongside Harry himself.

The decision to allow the soldiers to help the princes personal charity,Sentebale, was authorised by senior officers after it was suggested by Harry,23, a lieutenant in the regiment.

But today the move prompted questions from MPs over whether the prince wasbeing given preferential treatment.

Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker said: The charity is a very good cause.Doubtless all soldiers in the Army are treated equally so itreallyisveryfortunateindeedthatthis particularassignmenthascomePrince Harrys way. Labour MP for Thurrock Andrew MacKinlay said: Its aworthwhile charity but the rules must apply equally. Would they allow this forany other officer or are the royals being given special licence? However,shadowdefenceministerGerald Howarth defended the prince. He said: If this is an initiative by PrinceHarry, it seems to me that it is the kind of leadership that the Army has foundin this man. Harry is said to be really excited that his militarytrainingexercise will support the campaign he set up in memory of his mother.

In addition, his regiment has agreed a corporate sponsorship deal with LandRover to provide off-road vehicles for the deployment. The move is likely tospark fresh debate over royalsforsaleafterthe[pounds sterling]500,000wedding picturesdeal struck with Hello! by Harrys cousin Peter Phillips.

Harry,knownasLieutenantWalesinthe military, has been on leave since his 10-week stint in Afghanistan was cutshort in March.
