Q. My husband and I have decided to convert our loft space into a bedroom equipped with an en suite.

I would quite like a traditional theme or something similar to get that homely feel. Do you have any tips to make it an enviable room which all our guests can enjoy?

MICHELLE says: "A loft conversion adds class and, if done correctly, significant value to your home. Make the most of your available space by choosing colours and furnishings that are soft and subtle, but don't hold back as there's plenty of themes to consider.

For a bedroom that oozes charm consider a country cottage theme with a four poster bed and solid wood furniture. A Mediterranean look is another option, using cast iron furnishings and accessories.

Some finishing touches to consider could include a wooden chest, for spare sheets and blankets, and perhaps a decorative radiator cover. Dried flowers placed in a vase is another charming addition. In the bathroom add some chunky towels and fresh bath mats.

DAVE says: There are many unexpected costs involved but here's a brief summary of the various costs you have to consider:

Estate agent's fees - charges vary so it's worth checking on fees in your local area and meeting a few estate agents before you appoint one. …
