Youth Soccer Club 2nd for Florida State Cup

A Jacksonville Youth U-16 soccer club just finished second in a statewide soccer tournament called the Florida State Cup.

Clubs from around the state vie against each other at a competitive level. The Jacksonville club played against the Wellington Wave U-16 club and lost 5-2. Wellington remained undefeated throughout the tournament, while Jacksonville lost once before losing to Wellington in the finals.

The River City Swim League starts a new season of swimming this week. Clubs around the city are competing with each other, and it all started Thursday with the Jewish Community Alliance and Baymeadows Swim Team.

The main goal of the league is to provide the youth of the league clubs with an opportunity to compete in a social or competitive atmosphere - and, of course, have fun, officials said.

Father's Day is coming up in two weeks, and the new non-profit In River or Ocean Inc. is having an inaugural fishing tournament June 14 at Sisters Creek in honor of Clay Roberts, who died tragically last year.

Gary Roberts, Clay's father, is in charge of the Clay Roberts Memorial inshore Fishing Tournament, and all entry fees will go toward an annual scholarship to be awarded to a senior at Bishop Kenny who best exemplifies Clay's personality and character.

The tournament is a family affair and will have music, prizes and food for everyone. …
