GREEN-THINKING pupils at St Peter's Primary School, Brotton, have secured new Green Flag status thanks to their impressive environmental skills.

Headteacher John Stinson is delighted at the enthusiasm from the youngsters, honed over a number of years by various projects.

They have just received a second glowing assessment from environmental charity Encams that allows them to keep their Green Flag flying high!

He said: "This is a tremendous achievement, there are only a few organisations in the whole country to have achieved this standard. And the school is the only one in Redcar and Cleveland to have been awarded a second Green Flag."

The council's Cabinet member for children's services and education Ian Jeffrey said: "These children are going to grow to be far more aware about green issues than our own generation.

"And it's a credit to everyone at St Peter's that they have maintained such a high level of enthusiasm."

The school's Eco Committee, with representatives from each of the 11 classes, meets every fortnight to plan activities, co-ordinated by teacher Sue Silversides and school governor Tim Myer. …
