MONDEO man could soon become Caravan Man following another major award for Ford's iconic repmobile.

For the Mondeo Estate 2.0 TDCi Titanium auto has beaten tough competition from more than 50 other cars to be named as overall winner of the second annual Towcar Awards, judged by experts from What Car?, Practical Caravan and The Camping and Caravanning Club.

The cars tested were put through what is claimed to be the most rigorous towcar testing programme and judged on their towing ability plus a host of other qualities, including driving performance when not towing, practicality, value for money and safety.

To help buyers choose the right match for their caravan or trailer, the cars were judged in five categories by their kerb weight. The pounds 22,855 Mondeo came out top of the pile overall as well as winning the category for cars from 1,575-1,724kg.

The Mondeo's smaller sibling, the Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi Titanium 5dr also came up with an award in the up to 1425kg category and other category winners were: VW Golf Estate 2. …
