IN DEFENCE of the TaxiLink members, I see Mr Lewis is once again reiterating how good the new scheme is going to be in September when this web of services replaces the already good service we have.

Since the changes have been announced I have only met one person using the service who will still be able to use it after September because of the cost, and that is only because he is only a few miles out of town.

To be fair to everyone, there are three options that could have been considered. 1: The one Nexus has chosen, a fixed amount for each journey. 2: A card with an amount of money, which would be up to the member how and when they used it. 3: A card with a specific number of journeys a year that obviously get deleted as they are used.

Second and third would give each member at least the opportunity of a monthly visit to town or the MetroCentre, dependent upon where they live as opposed to the first one that means only people living three or four miles from their destination can afford to use it. …
