I AM in need of moral support on the running front.

It was all going well and I managed to do nearly 6k on my second run out with trainer Phil Barker and his running pal Sid. Then, the week before my holiday came around, I hit a bit of a snag. I stuck to Phil's schedule of running three miles three times a week, but I hadn't gone two when my left Achilles started screaming for me to stop.

I would stop and walk for a while, but as soon as I started running again it was agony. It had eased off when I went out again just before my holiday.

But then I went to Jordan and now things have gone really pear-shaped. I am now out of the habit of running.

I did climb up a mountain in Petra and will have to check with Phil whether this counts as training. We also walked for miles, so my fitness must have improved - mustn't it? …
