Link Teacher Award; Supported by Northumberland County Council and Northumberland Strategic Partnership Young Enterprise Awards

Article excerpt

YOUNG Enterprise North East programmes can only be successful if they have the support and appreciation of dedicated Link Teachers. These dedicated facilitators are the crucial link between the students, the business volunteers and the learning provided by Young Enterprise North East programmes.

The Link Teacher Award is supported by Northumberland County Council & Northumberland Strategic Partnership.

The two winners - Bill McLeod from West Gate Community College and Audrey Williams of Carmel RC College - were nominated by Young Enterprise staff who work with the teachers on a daily basis.

Ms Williams has managed the YE Company programme for the past six years. She has played a huge part in the success of her students achievements and remains endlessly dedicated, motivated and enthusiastic.

Young Enterprise commitment is on top of her already hectic timetable, but she never misses a YE meeting or a deadline. She also works with a young church group. As well as teaching full time, she is often up at 5am working on her farm until midnight at peak times such as lambing.

Ms Williams is retiring this year and YENE would like to say a big thank you for being such a pleasure to work with.

She received her award from Graham Adams at Northumberland County Council.

Ms Williams said: "I was amazed and thrilled to receive the award for Link Teacher of the Year.

"The thought had never crossed my mind that I could receive such an award. It was a wonderful way to say thank you for all the hard work and worry which I have put in over the last few years."

Bill McLeod, work related co-ordinator at West Gate Community College, has been involved with Young Enterprise North East since 2006 and in this time has been an active, organised and enthusiastic link teacher.

As a Beacon School link teacher he manages the running of the Young Enterprise whole school approach for YENE. …
