OVERSEAS raiders have annexed the British Group One action this term and the pattern looks set to be repeated at Newmarket today.

Aidan O'Brien has swept up most of the honours but it is Freddie Head's French challenger Marchand D'Or who can emerge top dog in the Darley July Cup.

The five-year-old has admittedly some ground to make up on Golden Jubilee Stakes winner Kingsgate Native, but the recent rain at Headquarters has seen the ground turn in his favour.

Marchand D'Or is a dual winner of the six-and-a-half-furlong Maurice de Gheest but his ability to stay that extra bit of distance should stand him in good stead in the stiff uphill finish.

That said, the Marchand De Sable gelding retains enough speed to win over the minimum trip, as he showed when beating subsequent King's Stand hero Equiano at Chantilly last month.

Marchand D'Or is a tough, consistent performer and after hitting the bar in the Haydock Sprint Cup last season, he is a worthy favourite to strike July Cup gold. …
