Unification Deal Suffers a Knock; COARSE ANGLING

Article excerpt

WITH the process of the unification of all angling governing bodies still in its infancy, a proposal has emerged that all branches of our sport could come under the umbrella of one fishing licence.

This controversial move could put a spanner in the works before any new legislation comes into effect because salmon and trout anglers currently pay a lot more for a licence to fish than coarse anglers do. Sea anglers pay nothing at all.

I can understand the logic behind it with the funds raised enabling the new governing body to fight any issues on behalf of all anglers, but will it work! We will have to wait and see. THE river Tees is fishing really well for bream at the moment at Yarm and Bowesfield, with the rain water flushing it through.

Add a bit of colour to the mix and you can have some top notch bream action.

Last Sunday around Yarm the big teams event of the season, the Drennan Super League got underway, with nine teams of eight anglers beginning a new campaign.

Local heroes Newman Scott set out as they intend to go on with the first win of the season giving them a slight edge over their rivals with 48 points.

North Ormesby Institute however kept the winners on their toes by coming second with 47 points, with Darlington's Browning Quaker a couple of points back in third with 45 points.

In second place Peter Smith of Turners tackle also snagged a slab or two weighing in 15lb 7oz.

The second round of the competition is tomorrow and, if the conditions are spot on again, expect the bream to get their heads down.

Another competition underway is the Angling Times/Maver Pairs qualifying matches and last weekend The Oaks hosted another round. …
