TEES ACTIVE and North Tees Primary Care Trust (PCT) have put together one of the largest and most extensive children's summer activity programmes ever to be seen in the north of England.

The real bonus for the children of Stockton on Tees is that the 'Sporting Start' summer programme is ALL FREE.

The programme has been designed to increase opportunities for the children of Stockton borough to participate in sport and physical activity.

Tees Active has more than 8,000 places available for five to 16-year-olds to sample taster sessions at Billingham Forum, Thornaby Pavilion, Thornaby Pool, Stockton Sports Centre or Castlegate Quay Watersports Centre, over the holiday period of July 24 to August 31.

The Sporting Start holiday programme proved a hit over the April and May school holidays with over 3,000 attending the various activities organised for the youngsters of Stockton.

Allan McDermott of Tees Active Sports Academy, said: "The support we have gained from North Tees PCT has enabled us to introduce the Sporting Start initiative which is specifically designed to increase physical activity of people in the borough. …
