Summer Basketball Camps Still on Schedule at YMCA

The YMCA of Arlington is having the last of two kids summer basketball camps at the end of July.

The YMCA's philosophy on these camps and sports programs is to have fun first, skills second and winning third. They emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, character values and fellowship with others while working to teach and develop fundamental athletic skills and knowledge.

The ages for the basketball camp are 7 to 11. Cost is $50 for YMCA members and $100 for non-YMCA members. The fees will include a uniform and an award, but if you register after the end of registration there will be an assessment of $65 for YMCA members and $115 for nonmembers.

TENNIS LEADERSHIP CAMP

Two Jacksonville teenagers who play tennis at the MaliVai Washington foundation and are associated with the National Junior Tennis League will attend the USTA/NJTL Tennis Leadership Camp in Washington, D.C., Tuesday-July 28.

Benzell Lang, 13, and Cindy Mohammed, 14, will represent Florida at the camp. They were selected by an application process that was conducted through tennis talent, sportsmanship, leadership skills and financial need.

The paid trip is a weeklong camp and will teach campers enhanced leadership skills, advanced skills training and also be motivational. Along with the athletics and education, the campers will visit The Capitol, the Smithsonian, Lincoln Memorial and many more sites. The camp will conclude with a trip to the Washington Kastles World Team Tennis match.

YMCA SUMMER DAY CAMP

The Yates Family YMCA is offering a summer day camp over three weeks through Aug. 8.

The camp will include activities such as character-building, science projects, math-building, reading activities, drama theater, individual sports, team sports, arts and crafts, field trips and swimming. …
