THE Journal Champion of Champions tournament put a tiger in the tank yesterday when Nikegolf, the firm who club up Tiger Woods, announced they will be one of the event partners for the 2008 staging of the region's premier amateur golf event.

Journal editor Brian Aitken, who brought back The Champions after an eight-year absence last season, said: "I am absolutely delighted. You can't do any better than have the world-famous company who kit out the Tiger on board. It's a proud moment for The Journal.

The 36-hole scratch strokeplay tournament will be played on Sunday September 14 over the Priestman Course which has seen three former Ryder Cup captains tread the same fairways for PGA European Seniors Tour events - Sam Torrance, Mark James and Bernard Gallacher.
