Dodgers See Some Progress; despite the Suns' Poor Record, the Assistant GM Likes What He's Seeing

Mobile's John Hester sent a sharp grounder up the middle, where Suns second baseman Ivan DeJesus Jr. made a great backhand stop. With his momentum carrying him toward left field, DeJesus jumped and turned in midair, his throw to first base just beating Hester.

"Great get, great play," De Jon Watson yelled.

Watson, an assistant general manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been in town to watch the Suns' series against the BayBears this week. Suns players know Watson is here, and that this would be a good time to make an impression.

Watson is responsible for developing and evaluating all players in the Dodgers' minor-league system, and he works closely with GM Ned Colletti as an adviser on all of the team's 40-man roster moves and major-league acquisitions.

Watson has been in Jacksonville several times this season to monitor the development of the organization's young players.

"It's been an interesting year for them as a group," he said before the Suns' 2-0 loss to the BayBears on Friday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. …
