Article excerpt

Byline: Wesley Mitchell

The Jacksonville Dolphins finish the summerlong baseball camp schedule with an advanced four-day camp for youths ages 14 to 20 Aug. 1-3.

The camp is three days but will split the different positions in half. Infielders and outfielders will participate Aug. 1-2 and pitchers and catchers Aug. 2-3.

The camp offers techniques every college coach is looking for: how to shine in a tryout, how to promote yourself to other colleges and, most importantly, how to help each player perform with better technique.

The camp has proven successful, as a third of JU's baseball team at one point attended.

Cost is $200 for two days and $250 for three days, with dorm fees to be determined for residential campers. To find out more information and to sign up, call 256-7429.

Rock Climbing Camp

The South Metro YMCA on Philips Highway starts its final week of Rock Climbing Camp for kids 6 to 12 Aug. 11.

Children will learn rock-climbing skills, climbing games and techniques that help build their confidence. Three days of the camp will be at South Metro and the final day will conclude at the Alpine Tower, located at the duPont Family YMCA on Old Kings Road South.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon Monday-Thursday and costs $80 per child for YMCA members and $120 for nonmembers. All payments for the camp must be made by the Wednesday prior to the camp and there is a 20-person maximum.

For more information on the camp and to register, call Climbing Director Lee Vartanian at 398-9808.
