Shirts, Boards, Vans Sign in Haul from Boards City; the Shop's Report Card Raffle Rewards Skaters' Good Grades

The recent Board City annual report card raffle was a hit! With Isak Spoor and Lance Katz as emcees, I think everybody had a good time. I'm pretty sure everybody won something, but as Isak said, "The better your grades, the better the chances are of you winning something."

There were some valuable things being given away, like hats, shirts, bearings, trucks, boards and even a neon Vans sign. DC shoes and Vans shoes gave away a lot of stuff. A lot of people went home with "The DC video" and a sweet Vans shirt. Even the new "Hundreds" company gave some sweet shirts away.

Unusually, my luck wasn't bad at all. I walked away with two Vans hats, a Vans shirt, "The DC video" and a new Board City deck.

To top everything off, the Starbucks coffee shop was giving away free beverages. My double chocolate chip Frappuccino was amazing.

Next up, Kona Skatepark

So I was thinking about what I should write for my next column, and I thought "Kona."

You probably already know, but Kona Skatepark in Arlington is the oldest privately owned skate park. It's got a snake run, which I have never seen anywhere else, and a variety of tombstones and other gnarly stuff. But it also has a sick street course with a vert wall and a big and steep handrail.

Kona is also known for hosting big events such as contests and demos, and will even be hosting the Free Flow Tour Aug. 2. The street contest for the Free Flow Tour, which is the official Amateur Series of the AST Dew Tour, begins at 11 a. …
