My Word, Phoebe; Pupil Makes Her Mark with Story

IMAGINATIVE Phoebe Marshall has shown her writing skills by taking on the Evening Gazette's Literacy Challenge.

Each Wednesday we are asking children to take on a writing task to help keep their brains active over the summer.

Last week's challenge was based on an extract of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in which readers were asked to write what they thought after Alice ate a piece of cake, which turned her into a giant.

The Stockton six-year-old told how Alice met the rabbit as he rushed to a fancy dress tea party, illustrated with colourful drawings.

Phoebe, who will go into Year 2 at Holy Trinity Rosehill School, Stockton, in September, loves to read and write.

Her mum Alex said: "Last Thursday was her first day off school and she said 'I'm bored, I want something to do', I read the newspaper story to her and asked her if she would like to do it and she did.

"She's been waiting for the next one and she's looking forward to it. …
