It's a Disappointing Summer for the Booze Crew

The Tom and Betty's softball team "The Booze Crew" will soon be finished with the summer season, one that has not been too kind to the team, which is now 2-3. The Booze Crew has experienced several losses that should have been wins because of bad luck and untimeliness.

The team hopes to rebound before the end of the season so it can show some pride before heading into the fall season. The coach, also an outfielder for the team, said he thinks he knows what might be going wrong.

"I feel as if we can be a very good team because we have played baseball all of our lives, so the competition isn't a problem," said Eric Spicer. "I blame the rain for the problems, because it is hard to get in a groove by playing one game every two weeks."

Tournament winners

The San Mateo Little League All-Stars recently won the District 11 tournament in St. Augustine and the Section 3 tournament in Merritt Island. They were to compete in the State Championship Friday at the South Orange Youth Sports Complex in Orlando.

"This is the third consecutive year this team has competed in the state championships," said Tina Stott. "We are very proud of this group of young boys."

The team is made up of Coach Darin Kirksey, Tyler Deel, Cameron Staples, Trevor Stott, Dwayne Norman, Logan Turknett, Jordan Cofield, Dennis Hayes, R.C. Williams, Jesse Prather, Chris Murdock, Austin Kirksey, Coach Chris Murdock, Coach Jonny Stott, Kyle Adams and Cody Greene. …
