ALTHOUGH Mrs S A Chapman likens Stockton to Spain (Blight Of Bendiorm, 27.06.08), the comparison may escape many people. However, Stockton does have much to be proud of and many exciting improvements are on the way. In this respect, Benidorm is doubtless similar.

I do thank Mrs Chapman for her thoughts and reassure her that our current town centre study is looking at what works, what doesn't, and what we can do to make it a more vibrant place.

It takes in all the issues she raises - buses, taxis, parking, shops, public realm, safety. When we have proposals and options, I hope Mrs Chapman and many others will join in our consultation.

We don't all have the same taste in architecture but, while the new student flats near Victoria Bridge may not be to her liking, its new occupants queued for hours to secure places.

Let us not forget our achievements judged by others.

We have won several accolades in the Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom awards - and last year won Best City category. …
