Wide receiver Reggie Williams will have arthroscopic surgery today or Friday to repair damaged cartilage in the right knee he reinjured Tuesday night, just hours after he was taken off the non-football injury list.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio was uncertain about Williams' expected recovery time Wednesday afternoon when Del Rio met with reporters, but it's likely Williams will miss at least the entire preseason.

"He should return to form, and I'll give you a time frame once I get one," Del Rio said. "He will need to have that procedure done, then rehab and get back to full speed."

Minor arthroscopic knee procedures typically require approximately two to three weeks of recovery time, but the severity of the damage to Williams' knee is unclear.

Williams' injury further decimates the club's receiving corps, which came into camp under a cloud of uncertainty. Jerry Porter is recovering from a hamstring surgery and Matt Jones awaits trial on felony drug charges. Second-year receiver Mike Walker (knee) is limited to just one practice per day, and Dennis Northcutt has missed time with a strained back.

Williams started camp on the non-football injury list after reporting to camp with a sprained knee. Hours after being cleared to practice Tuesday, Williams reinjured the knee when he spun after making a catch. Williams said he suffered the original injury running the steps inside Jacksonville Municipal Stadium last week.

"We're working through some injuries like everybody is around the NFL," Del Rio said.

Center Brad Meester flew to Birmingham, Ala., on Wednesday to meet with surgeon James Andrews about Meester's injured right biceps, but Del Rio didn't have any updates on Meester's condition.
