Police Asking for Your View on Blades; FORCE IS KEEN TO GAUGE YOUR OPINIONS OVER KNIFE CRIME

POLICE are asking families for their views on knife crime.

Surveys are being carried out across the force area to gauge opinion on tactics being used to curb knife-carrying.

People in parts of Newcastle, Gateshead and South Tyneside have already spoken.

And questions were asked in Ashington on Monday and in Wallsend on Tuesday.

More than 500 people of all ages have given their views and hundreds more spoken to by officers on patrol.

Officers want to know whether families fear knife crime in their area.

The majority of those questioned will be re-contacted later during the campaign to see if their views have changed.

Neighbourhood Inspectors are also going out to community meetings to speak directly to the public.

Leaflets about the campaign are in the process of being delivered to homes across the region.

Northumbria Police chiefs say knife crime isn't as significant a problem in the force area compared to other parts of the UK. …
