ROB Bell endured perhaps the toughest 24 hours of his racing career as he tackled the arduous Spa 24-hour event at the weekend.

The Morpeth-born driver made a rare mistake while leading the GT2 category of the endurance challenge, which saw the CR Scuderia squad finish a lowly sixth in class and 11th overall.

Bell was joined by regular team-mate Andrew Kirkaldy as well as Dirk Muller and reserve driver James Sutton in the team's first 24-hour race.

The CR Scuderia car had been running troublefree during the two nighttime qualifying sessions, and it was ultimately Bell who set the lap which placed the car fourth on the grid in the GT2 class.

The three drivers took it in turns to get behind the wheel as the weather kept everyone on their toes with sudden showers every hour or so.

By the time Bell jumped into the driver's seat for his second stint, it was approaching midnight and the rain soon began to lash the track.

Sitting in fourth place, he made a mistake coming out of the exit of Les Combes, hitting the kerb and sending the car into a spin. …
