WHO SAYS the BBC has lost it teeth? The editor of the BBC's light entertainment programme The One Show has angrily refuted suggestions Gordon Brown was given an easy ride when he pitched up to its comfortable sofas to be lightly grilled by Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley last month.

During Brown's appearance in July he was asked tough questions such as what made him laugh his own poll ratings aside. Gordon said that his son calling him Gordon rather than "dad" and the comedy show Little Britain made him smile.

"The notion that Gordon Brown's views went 'unchallenged' on The One Show has to be, er, challenged, on the simple grounds that it wasn't true," smarts the programme's editor Doug Carnegie in Ariel magazine.

"Outside of his perhaps surprising view that the Elgin Marbles should be double-nailed to the walls of the British Museum, he made one other political point. This was on knife crime and it was immediately countered with what David Cameron would do differently. …
