Beye Aims to Tackle Old Boys; Habib Sets Sights on Champions

HABIB BEYE is hoping to continue his bid to be ready for the Premier League opener at Manchester United after playing an hour of Newcastle's 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven.

The Senegal international travelled last week with the Toon squad for their disappointing Mallorca Summer Cup campaign but didn't play despite training for much of the week.

Beye was nursing a slight Achilles heel injury, with Kevin Keegan not wanting to risk one of the stars of last season for fear that he may miss the season opener at Old Trafford.

The defender didn't link up with Senegal over the summer and enjoyed some vital recuperation before playing in a black-and-white shirt on Wednesday night for the first time since Newcastle were beaten 3-1 at Everton on May 11.

He said today: "It was great to be back out there in front of the fans at St James's Park.

"It was my first game for 10 weeks.

"I got through 60 minutes, which was great, and I have nothing to worry about. …
