THERE were a total of 188 fixtures scheduled throughout the region on Saturday - and only 12 of these were played as the threatened weather front duly moved eastwards to swamp the area just before lunchtime.

With Teesside faring much better than the rest in terms of the weather the only Northern Rock North East Premier League Division One game to take place was at Grangefield where Stockton were entertaining Tynemouth .

Then the game only got under way four hours after the scheduled starting time - but the lengthy wait was worth it for the home side as Chris Hooker capitalised on the bowler-friendly conditions by blasting through the Tynemouth top order.

At one stage the visitors were 10-5 and it took a careful repair job by Barry Stewart (34 in 56 balls) to nudge the score up to semi respectability at 82 all out. Hooker's 10-over salvo earned him an impressive 4-17.

Grant Lindsay and Stewart then made the hosts sweat a bit, picking up the first four wickets with only 38 on the board, but skipper Richard Waite steadied the ship with an excellent knock of 36 - including four fours and one six - and Hooker then saw the job through with an undefeated 18 to hand Stockton their fourth win of the season by five wickets. …
