Angling: Conditions Are Wrecking Any Hope of Sport; SEA ANGLING HOOKED

Article excerpt

Byline: By SAM HARRIS

AS FAR as boat angling is concerned, things are very quiet, with only odd double-figure fish coming in off the wrecks.

Even boats fishing close in shore are not having particularly good sport. There are a few cod around averaging 4-6lb and some strap ling. Once the again, the weather is to blame.

Shore anglers are having the best of their sport with flatfish.

Cresswell beach has given some decent plaice to 2lb on rag and lug. The rivers are producing flounders and eels, and anglers fishing the Beadnell area are taking wrasse to 4lb on crab.

Mackerel fishing has been patchy - a case of one day they are there, the next they are not, and that has been all along the North East coast from piers and beach.

The Ryhope SAC open shore competition is being fished on Sunday, September 28. Further details nearer the event, or contact Bobby on (0191) 523 7272 or 07940 565 941. …
