Vent Your Spleen

Article excerpt

IN REPLY to JS of Hebburn, who says what sort of people are these magistrates who sit in judgement? These people are actually normal people who do it for free, they don't get paid for it. They do it in their own time and they just get expenses. As for the case of the RSPCA, the RSPCA is the richest charity in Britain and it spends 44% of its donations from the public on prosecution cases. That doesn't leave very much money for animals, does it? They are supposed to be an animal charity. So JS of Hebburn wants to get the facts straight. These people who are magistrates are actually doing a very good job. And I think they should be applauded, not condemned.

ANON, Felling.

FROM the lady who works full time, from Newcastle. In reply to CC of Newcastle, I never said you were bitter, you need to get your facts right. As a single parent with a long-term partner who sometimes stays, that does not mean that they live together. CC stated he has a partner, does she stay a few nights, or does she stay every night?

Now, does he get the distinction that I am trying to make? Check your facts and you'll find the law states you can still have a life, even as a single parent. Some on benefits are scroungers. I don't deny that, but many aren't and as we don't know their personal circumstances we should not generalise with these people when you don't know all the circumstances. Although I work full time now, I did have two children who had special needs and were classed as long-term disabled. I was not able to work and I had to look after two disabled children, so that is the point I wanted to make, that you really shouldn't be generalising about these people.

I QUITE agree with WH about cyclists in Saltwell Park. They should not sell bikes without bells either, they should at least give warnings. But it is not only the parks. I have had to jump out of the way on numerous occasions on the pavement. When will the idiots who ride these get it into their thick heads that the pavements are for pedestrians and the roads are for cyclists? And when is a law coming out to prevent this? If one was to be badly hurt by these ignorant people, then I suggest that cyclists should all carry insurance like car owners. …
