Needles Found in Underpass; Items Remained Even after Call to Police

A TEENAGER was shocked to find a handbag with methadone, used syringes and other drug paraphernalia lying in a pedestrian underpass.

But 18-year-old Ashley Lunn was even more upset when, after calling police, he found the dangerous items were still there next morning.

He was heading to his Hemlington home at about 11.30pm when he saw the bag. "I couldn't believe it, there were needles everywhere, spoons and lighters, and a bottle of methadone," he said."At first I thought someone had been mugged."

Ashley, who hopes to start work as an apprentice engineer, spotted the white handbag beneath the A174 in north Hemlington on Monday.

He told his friend Michael Jasper, 19 - who also saw the bag and its contents at 8.30am on the Tuesday.

The items were removed later that day, though a used needle and syringe were still initially left there.

Michael said: "It was all there. A lot of people walk their dogs through that tunnel. …
