Trader in Extreme Porn DVDs Spared Jail

A MAN who made thousands selling obscene videos was spared a jail sentence yesterday.

Robert Ronald Cowell, 54, distributed videos and DVDs featuring scenes of extreme sexual acts, from his home at Great Lumley, Chester-le-Street, County Durham.

He admitted 18 counts of possessing and publishing obscene articles and was ordered to complete 200 hours of community work and warned that further offending would land him behind bars.

Sentencing him at Durham Crown Court to eight months' jail, suspended for two years, Judge Michael Cartlidge said: "These videos were at the very most extreme end of pornography. You were involved in what is a really humiliating, degrading, disgusting business."

Steven Orange, prosecuting, said Cowell began distributing the videos when he lost his job and was made bankrupt.

Police searched his home in December last year and seized more than 2,500 pornographic DVDs and videos of an obscene and disturbing nature which Cowell was selling via adverts in The Daily Sport newspaper, under the company name Euroscan. …
