KENNETH Ferrie, 28, is a professional golfer who was born in Ashington, Northumberland, and now lives in Ponteland.

He is due to lead a team of youngsters in Northern Rock's Pro Am junior golf tournament tomorrow at Matfen Hall, which will follow with his participation in The Rock a professional three-day tournament sponsored by Northern Rock.

Kenneth will be returning to Matfen on September 17 for the Ferrie Foundation Pro Am where all proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Society and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

He started playing golf aged seven and turned professional in 1999 after a successful amateur career which included winning the British Boys Championship in 1996.

Kenneth has twice won on the European Challenge Tour, has two European Tour wins as well as the 2003 Spanish Open and the European Open in 2005, which have secured his tour card until 2011.

Kenneth played in the winning European team in the 2006 Royal Trophy and finished 6th in the 2006 US Open.

Ponteland.

How long have you lived there?

Just for a year.

What's your dream home?

The one I'm living in now!

How do you get around (walk, car, public transport, private jet)?

The car mainly, but I fly a lot with my job to different competitions across the world.

What is your favourite part of the North East?

As a golfer I love the North East coast as there are great golf courses dotted along it. I also love walking the dogs on the beach and fish and chips always tastes better there!

What is your favourite building in the region?

The Wills Building, I used to live there and think it is a lovely looking building.

What is the best holiday you've ever had?

It's not one holiday but a series of them. Family golfing holidays in St Andrews, Scotland. We used to go there most years when I was growing up and I loved it every time.

What's the favourite thing in your home?

My games room, with being in America for most of the year I have only just had time to finish it. …
