LINDA Henderson's 17-year-old part bred Arab brood mare, Aitwood Brook, finally went into retirement after a Glendale Show double championship at Wooler.

On a second outing this season, the mare, by Craiglee Music Man, easily took the Riding Pony Breeding Championship from three depleted entry classes to Kate Brownlie's Reserve Berry - sired by Romany Jo Jo.

A second Championship was taken in Arab classes, this time to Marianne Haile's Reserve Moonstone Eastern Dawn, repeating their placings in the In Hand Pure, Part Bred or Anglo arab class.

Henderson said: "It's time to retire the mare and go out on a high note after 13 years. The mare is 25% Arab thrown ten foals and currently has a Dorlyn foal at foot by Ninefield Millionaire.

"The foal took a Border Union Foal Championship and her mother a Reserve riding Pony Brood Mare Championship."

Morpeth rider Abbie Curtis, riding her own chestnut pony Top Cat, was another to take Glendale Championships in Unaffiliated Working Hunter Pony and Best Combination classes.

Curtis said: "We had hardly been to any showing shows and instead concentrated on show jumping and wins at 75 and 85cm at both High Plains and Todburn Equestrian Centre qualified us for the National finals of the UK Riders Championships at Vale View EC, Leicestershire.

"We have also qualified for the National finals of the UK Chasers Cross Country phase at Thornton Lodge Farm in York ."

The Lonframlington rider, eight-year-old Poppy Buck, riding Sparky, won the 13h and under working hunter class and finished Reserve to Abbie Curtis.

She had the pony for four months and has had many wins including working hunter champion at Kirkheaton. Last week at Whitehall Farm, she won her working hunter class. The Coloured Horse Championship went to North Northumberland Pony Club member Olivia Leyland and her seven-year-old 14. …
