BECAUSE of the weather, golf courses are playing longer than they would normally do at this time of year, so it is worth having a look at the ball you are using.

If the ground is wet and the ball is not running too much, you might want to try using a slightly firmer ball with a harder skin that will just go a little bit further in distance.

You will lose a little bit of control, but in current conditions that control is not quite as important as in consistently hot weather, when it's running a mile.

A harder ball, like the PTS Solo, takes quite a lot of spin off the ball, so if you are playing in the cold and the wind, it's not just back-spin it takes off the ball, it is also side-spin. So if you are slicing it or hooking it a little bit, the ball will not go off line so much. …
