KEVIN KEEGAN today parted company with Newcastle United after a row over the clubs transfer policy.

The 57-year-old has lasted just eight months in the job following his emotional return to St James Park in January.

Keegan is said to have felt increasingly undermined by owner Mike Ashleys decision to hand control of new signings to director of football Dennis Wise.

Frustrated by the clubs transfer efforts,Keegan held showdown talks with managing director Derek Llambias yesterday to voice his concerns.

Nothing was resolved and, with Keegan said to have been considering his future overnight, the former England manager spoke to Ashley this morning in a meeting which led to his departure.

The club are expected to announce the reason as mutual consent with Keegan, who has nearly three years left on his contract, likely to receive a pay-off.

Alan Shearer is certain to be the popular choice to replace Keegan, though another option being mooted is Tottenhams assistant manager Gus Poyet. …
