BLYTH Spartans have been scoring goals for fun at Croft Park but it was their turn to be on the receiving end against Blue Square North promotion hopefuls Tamworth on Saturday.

Their cause, though, was not helped when goalkeeper Mark Bell failed to appear for the second half after being injured and his replacement was defender Gary Brown.

At that stage Spartans were just a goal behind scored by Gareth Sheldon midway through the first period. He blasted the ball past Bell from fully 30 yard s.

At the other end, Anthony Hume was close with a header, a Gareth Williams free kick was blocked by the wall and Robbie Dale's corner ended with Tamworth goalkeeper Will Puddy saving well from Hume.

Hume was involved in most of Blyth's action and he again tested the goalkeeper who then turned a goalbound effort by Dale onto the post.

Spartans, though, pressed the selfdestruct button when a couple of defenders failed to clear an innocuous ball and stand-in keeper Brown misskicked straight to Nick Wright who was left with a simple tap-in on 65 minutes. …
