PERCY PARK and Alnwick teams claimed the honours in the annual Northumberland Under-17 and Colts Seven-a-Side Tournament.

The competition, hosted by Alnwick RFC, saw 11 clubs provide 17 teams and 175 players.

Over the course of the day, 182 tries were scored and 96 conversions made.

One penalty was also converted - the decisive and final score of the day in the under-17 final between Alnwick and Tynedale, which Alnwick just took 10-7.

The under-17 event had featured seven teams, with one league of four and one of three.

In the semi-finals, Tynedale overcame Gosforth 12-5 and Alnwick A defeated Morpeth 46-0.

The final was keenly contested and came down to one penalty kick separating the two sides at full-time.

The colts section involved 10 sides in two leagues of five teams.

Pool A saw Gosforth, Berwick, Ponteland, Morpeth and Percy Park battle it out.

The last pool match saw Berwick play Percy Park for a place in the final, Percy Park coming through 17-5.

The other pool saw Tynedale, Seghill, Alnwick, Northern and North Shields play each other.

Tynedale won all their pool games, conceding only one try.

This set up a final against Percy Park who, on the day, were too strong for the Tyne Valley outfit, triumphing 33-0.

The result was the reverse of last season's Colts 15-A-Side Cup final, where a strong Tynedale Under-18s beat Percy Park who played as an under-17 outfit last year.

NEWCASTLE Falcons' Kingston Park will again be the venue for the final of the second St Helier Pear Cider Student 10s Tournament on Saturday, October 11.

The premier student rugby 10s event in the UK will again offer competition in three sections for men's, women's and post-graduate teams.

The pre-final rounds will be played at Northumbria University's Bullocksteads Sports Ground. …
