REGARDING Mike Bell from Byker ("Ban has stopped my social life", October 2), I am a smoker and I have to say that I totally disagree with your point of view.

The ban isn't stopping people turning out to the pubs, ifs the prices. Why go out when you can buy eight cans of lager from your local shop for pounds 5 or two bottles of wine for pounds 6?

My partner and I both work full-time, but going out socialising is a rare treat these days. I grew up living in my parents' public house On track for big fun TRAMS were a common sight in the early 20th Century and designer Bill Carlson, shown here in November 11976, was a huge fan.
