MARIE MARSH Teaching assistant Marie Marsh has a self-confessed obsession with gardening.

The 55-year-old from Rowlands Gill loves nothing better than trailing the charity shops to find unusual containers to use as pots.

MARY THIRLAWAY MARY Thirlaway and her husband Tom knew nothing about plants until they moved into a property with a garden 20 years ago.

With the help of Gardeners' World and gardening books, they set about creating a haven at the back of their house in Low Fell, Gateshead. Mary says: "It's been trial-and-error, really."
